If you want to share your Wi-Fi access data with other people, the best way is to use a QR code. Friends and family can simply scan the code using their phone’s camera app, and they’ll be connected to the Wi-Fi in a flash. Here’s how it works and how they can be used in everyday situations.

Find and create QR codes

With FRITZ! products you’ll find QR codes for Wi-Fi access in a number of different places.

An overview:

• For the initial setup: FRITZ! Notes and sticker on your FRITZ!Box
• In the FRITZ!Box user interface (Home Network and Guest Access)
• In the FRITZ!App WLAN and MyFRITZ!App apps (also as a widget)
• On FRITZ!Fon (Wi-Fi guest access only)
• On FRITZ!DECT 440 (Wi-Fi guest access only)

For the products mentioned above, you can view, configure and/or display your QR codes. When you change your Wi-Fi password, a new QR code is generated. You can therefore always see the current and valid QR code in the FRITZ!Box user interface, our apps, FRITZ!Fon or FRITZ!DECT 440.

Generate and display a QR code

A QR code is convenient because it can be photographed by a number of end devices, such as a smartphone or tablet, allowing guests to connect to the Wi-Fi in an instant. This saves the hassle of typing in the Wi-Fi password or connecting via the WPS/Connect button on the FRITZ!Box if it is not within range. Retrieve and print QR code via the FRITZ!Box user interface

In the FRITZ!Box user interface, there are two different places where you can display the QR code for the Wi-Fi: For your home network, you will find the option in the “Wi-Fi” menu under “Security”. Simply click on the “Print Info Page” button there to get all the info about your Wi-Fi network, including the QR code. You can scan the QR code displayed there, for example, with your phone camera or the FRITZ!App WLAN.

To see the QR code for guest access, click on “Guest Access” in the “Wi-Fi” menu and then on the “Show QR Code” button. We explain how to set up guest access here.

Where to use QR codes

There are number of different situations where it makes sense to share Wi-Fi access data (either home or guest network) with other people. And for such situations there are various options for sharing the QR code with others. Here are our suggestions:

Restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs

In situations where you can expect a lot of walk-in customers, it’s a simple and straightforward process to print out the QR code (you can also laminate it if you want) and – depending on the size of the location – stick it up in several places, such as on the wall next to the entrance, above the bar or printed on the food/drink menu. Visitors can simply scan the QR code to connect to the guest access.

At home

When inviting friends over for a movie night or a bite to eat, you don’t necessarily have to print out the QR code and stick it on the wall somewhere. The QR code can also be easily displayed on the FRITZ!Fon or, even better, on the FRITZ!DECT 440: Here, the QR code for guest access can easily be displayed on the e-paper display. You can switch between the various displays by pressing the menu button.

In addition to FRITZ!Fon and FRITZ!DECT, you can also easily display your QR codes via our FRITZ!App WLAN and MyFRITZ!App apps, which is super easy for your guests to scan.
